Walkers serve as a mobility aid specifically designed to enhance stable and balanced walking. They are often used during rehabilitation after an injury or surgery, or are utilized by elderly individuals, or by those with mobility challenges. Walkers come in a wide assortment of styles, sizes and configurations in order to suit specific special needs. While the use of most walkers does require some upper body strength, they are generally a much safer alternative to the use of canes and crutches. Medical walkers may be used long-term or short-term, depending on each unique user’s situation and requirements.
